November 2nd and 3rd - Hand Building with Slabs: Stretching Possibilities With Scott Jennings

In this two day hands-on workshop, Scott Jennings will demonstrate the techniques that he uses to create hand built vessels from slabs of clay. He will show how to make patterns for each form, how to texture the clay, best practices for constructing with slabs, and how to create volume by stretching the vessels once constructed. Glazing considerations will also be discussed. This workshop would be appropriate for students who have some hand building experience.

The workshop will run Saturday and Sunday, November 2nd and 3rd 10-3pm.

Students will create up to 2 pieces in this workshop that will be bisqued for students to pick up 3-4 weeks after the workshop.

All material will be provided.

Scott Jennings is a Bay Area artist who has been working with clay for 30 years. He has 15+ years of teaching experience in various settings including community college, municipal arts programs, and community studios. Scott has worked as a college ceramic lab technician and production manager at a ceramics manufacturing facility. He graduated with a BFA in Ceramics from Cal State Fullerton in 1996. He maintains a workspace in San Francisco at 1890 Bryant Studios.
